Meet
Robin Seneta
Robin has been a science
teacher for 14 years so most of her scrapbooking and
printing is for personal use. She was a
pioneer with Hawk Mountain Papers’ Digital Scrapbook
Paper Site.
She stuck with us through our growing pains and I
appreciate her taking the time to share her knowledge
with us.
I (print with an) hp9800. I
have been doing this for about a year and a half when I
have time! I do digital most of the time but when
I have pulled up old photos, I use the
scanner.
I start from scratch. I sometimes
start with a template but I never just plug in the
pictures, I always change things and change the
embellishments.
I have scanned paper on occasion but it seems
like extra effort when the backgrounds are already
there. I
use scrapbook factory deluxe most of the
time.
How did you get started
with digital printing/scrapbooking? I wanted an easy
way to scrapbook without all the cutting and
pasting. I don’t like doing all those things-I am
a computer person-and this was the perfect
solution.
Do you have any advice for
the many students/novices printing their own
work?
-Yes-12x12 is my favorite. If
you want the traditional scrapbook look I think you have
to keep your page square. I like 8x8 but I think
that you can’t get as much on a page without it looking
cramped. I have just done one page for someone
else and have bought 12x12 frames-that is an amazing
cherished gift. Especially for weddings and
newborns.
What is your favorite
part of Digital Scrapbooking? I would have to say showing my work
to other people. I love the look on people’s faces
when they look in the scrapbook and see all of the
pages-they can’t believe that it could all be done on a
computer. I also LOVE the fact that I have hard
copies saved and preserved just like photos as well as
the fact that I can make as many copies as I want.
I made the same family scrapbook for 5 different
people. Had I done that traditionally it would
have taken forever! Now I just hit 5 copies to
print-how much more easy could it be?
What do you like the least?
Honestly-the
program that I love is made for a PC-not a MAC, and I
own a MAC-so to run the software I have to do a lot of
hoop jumping-which sometimes deters me. I know
there are things out there for the MAC, but they don’t
compare to the piece of software I like, and the pc I do
have run’s slow and has memory issues, so when I want to
put a lot of pictures on a page, it slows down and can
crash. If I had the software I love made for a
MAC-I would probably do a lot more pages than I already
have.
What do you like most
about Hawk Mountain Papers? The
Choices of paper and paper
sizes.
What do you like the
least about Hawk Mountain Papers? Sometimes I have problems finding the
paper I used before, and getting the right size.
Editor’s note: Hawk Mountain
went through some paper changes around the time when we
first started marketing ourselves to the digital
scrapbook market.
Robin uses Sparrowhawk, an 11mil, double sided
archival matte paper. It is now
readily available and in all sizes
imaginable.
